If you move, you’re an athlete.
Athletics isn't defined by a jersey or a stadium; it’s defined by physical demand and the recovery required to meet it. Whether you are preparing for a high school season, balancing a demanding daily schedule, training for a weekend race, or stepping onto a lifting platform, your body requires a deliberate strategy to perform.
Most high-performers are guessing. They follow generic plans found online or eat based on how they feel in the moment. Oak & Iron is about removing the guesswork and replacing it with clinical strategy.
We align your physical demands with your nutritional requirements by focusing on four key lenses:
Fueling Logic: Matching your intake to your actual energy output. We ensure you have enough in the tank for the work, without the metabolic "crash" that leads to burnout.
Recovery Mechanics: Using nutrient timing to speed up muscle repair and manage systemic inflammation after hard training or demanding days.
Hydration & Micronutrients: Addressing the hidden limiters — like electrolyte imbalances or key nutrient gaps — that cause early fatigue and stall progress.
Injury Resilience: Building a nutritional foundation that supports bone density and connective tissue health, keeping you durable for the long haul.
I’ve spent my life navigating the intersection of training and recovery. From youth softball to high school water polo and competing as a collegiate swimmer, I learned early on that output is a direct result of how well you support the system.
My path hasn't been a straight line. Born and raised in Southern California, my career and clinical training took me through college in Minnesota, graduate school in Montana, and years in Virginia before putting down roots here in North Carolina.
Off the clock, I’m happiest outdoors. You'll usually find me snowboarding when I can find snow, hiking, or out on a paddleboard. At home, I'm usually cooking for my family, spending time with my kids, or pretending I know how to play the guitar.
Today, as a performance dietitian and mother, my own training has evolved. My workouts have shifted toward functional strength in my home gym, and some of my most demanding physical effort comes from the daily reality of lugging sports equipment, heavy backpacks, and tired preschoolers.
I know firsthand that life isn’t just physically demanding — it’s cognitively and emotionally demanding, too. Your nutrition should be a high-performance tool that supports that effort, not an added burden.
The Background
The Oak & Iron Difference: Clinical Authority vs. Generic Coaching
Not all performance guidance is created equal. In a landscape flooded with viral "hacks" and weekend certifications, high-performing athletes deserve absolute clarity on who is managing their physical output, joint integrity, and fueling logic
I founded Oak & Iron to move past the fragmented approach to performance. While sports medicine and nutrition often exist side-by-side, they are rarely built into a single, integrated strategy. I bridge the gap between physical demands and fueling requirements by merging two distinct areas of expertise:
The Athletic Trainer (LAT, ATC): With 15 years of experience across the athletic spectrum — spanning independent professional baseball and elite level athletes to over a decade in secondary school athletics and primary care sports medicine — I understand the mechanics of the human frame. My focus has always been the same: how the body moves, recovers, and remains resilient under pressure.
The Registered Dietitian (RD, LDN): Earning my Master of Public Health from UNC Chapel Hill grounded my practice in rigorous, evidence-based science. I specialize in individualized fueling and hydration strategies that align with your real-world training demands to support immediate output and long-term vitality.
The Framework
How we build your strategy
Baseline Review: We start with the reality of your day-to-day — your training volume, lifestyle demands, injury history, and current habits. No generic templates; we look at the actual environment you operate in.
Performance Audit: A comprehensive deep dive into your current nutrition. I analyze your intake against your energy demands to identify gaps, pinpoint inefficiencies, and evaluate any current products or protocols for safety and efficacy.
Strategy Implementation: We translate the data into action and build a fueling protocol that fits your life. You’ll be equipped with individualized nutrition guidelines, and timing strategies so you know exactly how to execute from day one.
Ongoing Refinement: Physiology changes as your stress levels, seasonal demands, and training cycles shift. We continually adjust your protocols to keep your energy, recovery, and output at their peak.
